UL (formerly Underwriters Laboratories) is a US-based safety consulting and certification company. It played an instrumental role in the public adoption of electricity in the United States and the ongoing drafting of safety standards for electrical devices and components, including electrical cables. 

CSA stands for Canadian Standards Association, a provider of product testing and certification services for a variety of products including electrical cables.
